Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2025
Wordrop respects your privacy. This page explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
- On-device game data (local storage): We store your streak, today’s progress, wins/plays, average win time, theme preference, lifeline usage, awarded badges, and how-to preferences. These values live in your browser’s local storage (e.g., keys like
progress_YYYY-MM-DD
,played_YYYY-MM-DD
,wordrop-streak
) and remain on your device unless you clear them. - Bug reports you choose to send: If you tap “Report a Bug,” we open an email draft to playwordrop@gmail.com and prefill a diagnostic snapshot (device/browser info, screen size, timestamp, and current game state such as round, streak, misses, correct/wrong letters, guess history, and the day’s phrase/hint). You can review and delete any part before sending.
- Anonymous gameplay analytics (Firebase Firestore): To understand difficulty and stability, the app records daily aggregate counts: total plays, wins, and per-round completions plus total misses per round. No usernames or contact details are collected by us. Requests to Firebase are handled by Google infrastructure, which receives standard log data (e.g., IP address) when your device connects.
How We Use Information
- Operate and improve gameplay and features
- Fix bugs and performance issues
- Respond to your questions or requests
- Measure puzzle difficulty and engagement using aggregate stats
Cookies & Local Storage
Wordrop uses browser local storage (and may use cookies) to remember settings and progress. You can clear this any time in your browser settings. Clearing it will reset streaks and progress saved on your device.
Sharing & Clipboard
If you use “Share Results” or the lifeline feature, we use your device’s share sheet (Web Share API) or copy text to your clipboard. The destination app or service you choose will handle that content under its own privacy policy. We do not receive that shared content.
Third-Party Services
Firebase (Cloud Firestore) — Google: used only for anonymous, aggregate gameplay analytics (plays, wins, per-round completions and total misses). We do not send names, email addresses, or precise locations. Google may process standard device/network logs to deliver the service.
No ads and no behavioral tracking. We do not run third-party advertising SDKs.
Data Retention
- On-device game data: remains until you clear your browser data or uninstall the app/shortcut.
- Bug report emails: kept as long as needed to support you; delete on request.
- Aggregate analytics: may be retained to track historical puzzle difficulty and app health.
Your Choices & Rights
- Clear local storage/cookies in your browser to remove on-device data.
- Choose whether to send bug reports and what diagnostics to include.
- Contact us to delete messages you’ve sent or to ask about your information. Depending on your region, you may have rights to access or delete personal information; we’ll help fulfill applicable requests.
Children’s Privacy
General audience: Wordrop is a family-friendly word game and kids can play. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If a child contacts us (for example, via the bug-report email), a parent or guardian can email playwordrop@gmail.com and we will delete the message.
If we ever add features that collect contact info or create accounts, we will add an age check and, where required, obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here with an updated date.
